Kacper Zaprzalka

My name is Kacper Zaprzalka and I am currently a Junior studying Atmospheric Science at UWM. I was born in Poland, and as a child I would always watch the news to see weather updates across Europe. I moved to the states when I was 6 years old and found myself watching The Weather Channel all the time. Throughout my childhood I lived in many different places, including the Pacific Northwest and Florida, so I was fortunate enough to experience many different weather phenomena that further developed my interests in meteorology. For example, my family had to drive up to Wisconsin when moving from Florida, which happened to be during the March 2012 tornado outbreak. Seeing the tornado damage on the side of the highways made me realize just how powerful and dangerous the weather can be. I've spent the last 9 years living here in Milwaukee, so I chose to attend UWM to stay close to home. I started at Innovative Weather in the summer of 2021 and am looking forward to continuing my experience here! I am also involved in the Atmospheric Science club at UWM as well. In my free time I enjoy spending time outdoors, like biking along the lake trails, camping, and hiking.

Zachary Riel

I joined Innovative Weather in the fall of 2021. My educational background is a B.S. in Meteorology from Western Illinois University and a M.A. in Communication from the same university. My thesis used a health communication model to analyze how people in the Midwest would respond to and interpret a WEA tornado warning text message that they may receive one day. The strong interest in weather for me started at a young age with how quick the weather could change in one location. Working with the public to help them gain knowledge of weather and becoming weather resilient is a passion of mine. This passion was put to use during college when I was in charge of educational outreach for the local community. I enjoy being a part of the team at Innovative Weather and love working with them and our partners on forecasts. During the weekdays I work as a GIS technician for a company in Waukesha, WI. When I'm not working, I can be found spending time with my wife, Mariah, and our three guinea pigs, Chewie, Poe, and Finn. I enjoy water sports, photography, hiking, and skiing.
